The Update before the Update

Thanks for holding steady. We wanted to drop an interim line out into the waters of Quindom, though there's not currently a ton of news. Let's call it the calm before the storm, shall we?

Quin is releasing as soon as possible. One of the lessons we've learned through the production process is to hold off on making promises that rely on timelines we have no control over. We don't want to mislead, so we're sticking to "soon" at the moment. As gamers ourselves, we know what it's like. Here's to wishing big studios would do the same! We'll play Breath of the Wild 2 when it's released, and never utter a word about the dev time after that, no doubt. Or when Tool releases their next 10-year-album, we'll love it. Everything comes in its own time, that's all we're saying, in art. There's a certain kind of solidarity and community to be found in weathering the beginnings of a gem in first production.

Criticism is sincere flattery. We're not putting out Zelda here, we know, and thankfully. Not sure our skin is thick enough for the rough words creators like those get from their more active fans. Keep on letting us know whatever is on your mind. Every single note is read and heard, whether or not we have a chance for a personal response. And keep on holding the faith, the rest of you, we hear your silence as a supportive presence, that for artists like us is irreplaceable.

So what's the wait? Well it's still that box. The rest of the game is manufactured, but our partners in China have suffered repeated setbacks, some related to Covid, others more logistic. They had to reassign the project manager, and that caused delays in communication. The box has a magnetic lid and plastic insert, and we're not shipping the game until it works right. They took a wrong turn with the psd files that cost us weeks, trying to get everything lined up. Hopefully we're past all of that at this point, but it will require another physical prototype, in our hands in the US, to pass our quality control. So again we wait, and reiterate:

"Soon, Quin fam. Soon."

In the meantime, the 2 of us at Arch & Gravity are always busy. The expansion pack for Quin, as well as our next game, Pale Blue Dot, are both in development. We were well on our way to a much faster timeline with those projects, but there's no getting around the full-time commitment necessary to maintain it. Toward that end, we're now relocating our base of operations! Our art comes out of our home, like many indie creators, and we're moving. This should allow us to resettle our financial footing to empower greater output. Here's to everyone like us getting the chance to follow their passions where they lead. Let's build the things the world is missing. Because why else are we here?

There will hopefully be another Update in the near future, at long last announcing that Pledge Manager. If you've been keeping your eyes on it all, you'll know that nothing else quite like it has come along, and this is still a moment to be in on, to be proud of being a part of.

In the meantime, if you want to support the dangerous duo at Arch & Gravity, to push forward those timelines, you can find our other projects via JoshuaStelling.com and TaeleenWoodard.com  Grab a copy of my book, read some free stuff, and order framed prints of Taeleen's prolific multimedia art.

If I could properly convey the body of production just behind this dam of stubborn reality, you might feel as certain as we are that the wait for Quin is worth it - like a beaver at the Hoover, so to speak, our hopes are high.

There ought to be a buildup from here though. Videos, social content and tip sheets are in the works, so keep an eye on notifications for our channels, as we gear up for the physical release. If you get any time on Tabletopia playing Quin, record and share! We're just 2 artists over here, and Quin is going to be a product of its community, in the long run. That's you.

Don't wait, play. Play Quin. Free. Now. Or play some other sweet new games and tell us about them! What are the Kickstarters you're enjoying today? We're always looking for awesome new projects to back. Don't sweat the quiet. It's just the calm before the game.

(You're right, that wasn't so hard after all. Peace, Quin family!)
